Gravity may put the planets into motion, but without the divine Power, it could never put them into such a circulating motion as they have about the Sun; and therefore, for this as well as other reasons, I am compelled to ascribe the frame of this System to an intelligent Agent.
What does the term gravity mean to you?
Do you think of our moon? Suited up astronauts floating in space? A shiny red apple falling to the ground?
Do you ever think about what's keeping you down?
What is your center of gravity?
For me, it's finding a time to write out my mind spin in front of my dark window at 5AM every morning. It's the end of a hot yoga class when I'm on my mat grateful to be able to feel my breath circulating through my body. It's when I feel my roots digging down into the earth from my feet while my heart beats bravely on and begs to open. Gravity can wipe the smile off my face as soon as joy puts in on there; it can simultaneously bring tears to my eyes, pull a scream from my throat, and drop me to the floor. That's what gravity does. It's grave, gritty, gravelly shit, Gravity, and when you hit the ground too hard you can find yourself picking debris out of your knees for months afterward.
But gravity can also ground you into realizing you can do some pretty brave shit, too. The unavoidable type of stuff you don't necessarily want to do but do anyway because, well, you must. Yes, unavoidable and universal stuff. We all have it. We all experience it. And we can all agree, I believe, that persistent Gravity's pull does not discriminate.
Where is your center of gravity?
Close your eyes and reflect for a moment on the concept of gravity and where you are in space. Feel the areas of your body making contact with the Earth and sense the ongoing vibration of you and this planet. The relationship you have with it, our moon, our planets, and beyond.
Where is your center of you?
What keeps you here?
What is your essential self like and what keeps it down for good?
What keeps your essential self, your inner you, down for bad?
Is it self doubt? A bad relationship? A heavy heart?
Is it ignorance, shame, or hatred?
Maybe it's anger?
Or the need to forgive?
Whatever it is that may be keeping you down in a not-so-good way, know that you are not the first nor will you be the last to struggle. You're right on track.
Who is your center of gravity?
I sure hope your center of gravity is you, rather than someone else. I think if I took a poll on the streets or the internets out there most people would name a loved one in their life. Don't you? But think about that for a moment. Someone else being your center of gravity. It doesn't work.
We humans fight with gravity and we write about gravity. We argue about gravity and blindly assign our gravitational centers to other beings who are busy handling their own gravity. Thankfully, sometimes people stop arguing and take the notion of singing about it. Here are three of those songs, all titled the same, for you.
Gravity John Mayer
Gravity is working against me And gravity wants to bring me down Oh, I'll never known what makes this man With all the love that his heart can stand Dream of ways to throw it all away Whoa, gravity is working against me And gravity wants to bring me down Oh, twice as much ain't twice as good And can't sustain like one half could It's wanting more that's gonna send me to my knees Oh twice as much ain't twice as good And can't sustain like one half could It's wanting more that's gonna send me to my knees Whoa, gravity, stay the hell away from me Whoa, gravity has taken better men than me Now how can that be? Just keep me where the light is Just keep me where the light is Just keep me where the light is Come on keep me where the light is Come on keep me where, keep me where the light is
Honey It's been a long time coming And I can't stop now Such a long time running And I can't stop now
Do you hear my heart beating Can you hear that sound 'Cause I can't help thinking That I don't look down
And then I looked up at the sun And I could see The way that gravity turns for you and me And then I looked up at the sky And saw the sun And the way that gravity turns on everyone On everyone
Baby It's been a long time waiting Such a long, long time And I can't stop smiling No I can't stop now
Do you hear my heart beating Oh do you hear that sound 'Cause I can't stop crying And I won't look down
And then I looked up at the sun And I could see Oh the way that gravity turns On you and me And then I looked at the sun And saw the sky And the way that gravity pulls on you and I On you and I
Something always brings me back to you It never takes too long No matter what I say or do I'll still feel you here 'till the moment I'm gone You hold me without touch You keep me without chains I never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love And not feel your reign Set me free, leave me be I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity Here I am, and I stand So tall, just the way I'm supposed to be But you're on to me and all over me Oh, you loved me 'cause I'm fragile When I thought that I was strong But you touch me for a little while And all my fragile strength is gone Set me free, leave me be I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity Here I am, and I stand So tall, just the way I'm supposed to be But you're on to me and all over me I live here on my knees as I try to make you see That you're everything I think I need here on the ground But you're neither friend nor foe though I can't seem to let you go The one thing that I still know is that you're keeping me down You're keeping me down, eh ooh You're on to me, on to me, and all over me Something always brings me back to you It never takes too long
